For all those thoughts that come unbidden,
I pray to God, I'll be forgiven.
When all is not well or doesn't go my way,
Lord, help me to keep self-pity at bay.

If I should think that my neighbor looks swell,
I pray on that thought my mind doesn't dwell.
And when temptation does enter my day,
Please give me the sense to look away.

When someone is ill and I'm there to serve,
Let desire for fun not break my reserve.
When I stumble, and those times I know fear,
I pray that your voice, I clearly will hear.

Though life may contain violence and strife,
I pray not to seek them out in my life.
I can't help the things that cross my mind,
But help me to keep my mouth in line.

All this I ask, and I know it's a lot.
Please, help me control my unbidden thoughts.
