Maturity can't be defined by chronological age.
It's something acquired, through each painful stage.
It's a struggle from life's start to the day it's done,
With each test closer, yet never completely won.

An accumulation of years and lessons learned;
A collection of hardships and blessings earned;
A delicate balance of things we must know,
To make our lives better ... and the seeds we sew.

To find our identity, but not at the cost of others.
To go with the flow, without becoming our brothers.
To know what is right, but concede to the majority;
To strive for success, but be content in the minority.

To learn the difference between challenge and defeat.
To be a good sport, even when you've been beat.
To see the world as it is, without being pessimistic,
To fail repeatedly, yet remain optimistic.

To believe in ourselves, without being big headed,
To cling to our principles, without being pig-headed.
To accept our faults, but continue to improve.
To listen to criticism, and stay in a good mood.

'Though the advice that we get is often redundant,
The mistakes we continue to make are abundant.
Maturity can only be gained by experience,
So go ahead; live, love, laugh and be serious.
